A former employee regrets the changes happening at Zondervan and shares his experience on indeed.com, "I had a great 15 years at Zondervan. Then, unfortunately, management changed that made my career very difficult. I left with 10 other employees in a department shakeup."
Former Freelancer - Anonymous Freelancer says"Very short turnaround times. Then, they added a step where each project has to go through contract approval, which took any number of days. The problem was, you would be offered a project with an end date, but because of the uncertainty of the contract approval, you would have no idea when the start date would be, so no way to determine if there was a reasonable time to do it in. I was unable to work with them after they instituted this new policy."
Former Employee - Director says"Meeting heavy, lack of job stability, culture is unstable since NewsCorp has taken over, overworked, lack of support, understaffed, dead cubicle atmosphere. NO TRAINING.... Be prepared to fall on your face if you don't push and scream for somebody to spend time to welcome you into the team (understaffed). Politically correct culture (religious wise)."
Former Freelancer - Editor says"Everyone is too busy trying to do 3 jobs since they downsized."
Former Intern - Anonymous Intern says"As is the case with many internships, it was a lot of data entry and down time. Sometimes I felt like a nuisance asking for more to do, especially because the team was so busy and they didn't want to take the time to teach me new things. There were no other interns at the Grand Rapids location. It would have been nice to have a peer to relate to or have shared experiences with. I was told it was a summer position, so I had work lined up for the fall. In my last week I gave a presentation and they asked me if I wanted to stay on... I totally would have if I knew that was an option and that had been communication earlier!"
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"doesnt care for their employees"
Former Employee - Word of Mouth Marketing Strategist says"Since the parent company (HarperCollins) acquired Thomas Nelson, the Thomas Nelson leadership has now been placed over Zondervan and the new combined organization has a very vague sense of mission and purpose. Further: Many Zondervan employees have been laid-off and most coworkers feel a sense of impending doom for the company and their own careers."
Former Employee - Executive Assistant says"Hourly employees tend to watch their time on breaks and lunch hours more than the salaried employees do. Upper management can be a problem for some."
